Other Projects

thumbnail Zelda Classic. A game and accompanying editor for those who've ever wanted to create their own game in the style of the original NES Zelda or A Link to the Past. Games created in the editor can contain custom maps, graphics, sounds, items, and enemies. I help develop the project and am currently site webmaster.

thumbnail Digital Board Game Prototyper. Travis McPhail and I created a Java framework, editor, and online client for quickly and easily digitizing and playing multiplayer board games, especially those with complex or dynamically changing rules. Our goals were to ease rapid prototyping of new games, and to use our framework to create an online digital library of historic board games, playable from the browser. Available digitized games include Condotierre (pictured), Go, Chess, Stratego, and Risk.

Note: I no longer maintain or have access to the game server, and cannot help you if it's down.

Thumbnail WarChess. A team of other Rice students and I created this cross between Warcraft and chess during a semester-long game programming course. Pieces move as in chess, but like in Warcraft different pieces act asynchronously, there is fog of war, and resource squares that generate revenue. You can use this cash to purchase new units, or set one of your units on fire, so that it will explode and devastate a large area of the board on its next successful attack. Kill all enemy kings to win.
